6 years for murdering husband. Why do women continue to get light sentences?

Well, conditions may be different in the US, but in the UK men who murder their wives often get exceedingly light sentences as well. In fact here, murderers in general often get pretty light sentences, it doesn't seem to be taken particularly seriously as a crime here any more.
