Why are Minnesotans so unfriendly?

Well. I moved from a different country and am not used to seeing people without smiling or greeting them. Here, they just walk past you. It seems they are so cold and unfriendly here. It's even hard to make new friends. it's hard to break into social circles. Why is that?
